Mandatory Units

  • Module 1 – Understanding Eating Disorders: This module covers the definition, causes, and effects of eating disorders on individuals and others. It explores signs, symptoms, and management techniques, including treatments and support resources available.
  • Module 2 – Principles of Healthy Eating: This module delves into the relationship between diet and health, defining a healthy diet for both children and adults. It examines the diseases linked to poor diets, energy sources, calorie calculations, food groups, nutrients, and the importance of variety and fluid intake in a healthy diet, along with principles of healthy food preparation.
  • Module 3 – Principles of Weight Management: This module includes how the risks of ineffective weight management are addressed, including obesity, emaciation, and malnourishment. It explores the role of balanced diets, energy balance, lifestyle choices, and effective weight management programs, emphasising realistic goal setting and information gathering.
  • Module 4 – Using Food and Nutrition Information for a Healthy Diet: This module focuses on food labelling, nutritional content, additives, and legislative aspects. It teaches how to use nutritional information to plan a healthy diet, record food consumption, and compare it against dietary guidelines, while addressing misleading claims and recommendations for adult nutrition.
  • Module 5 – Principles of Food Safety in the Home Environment: This module covers the importance of safe food handling, personal hygiene, and proper storage techniques to prevent contamination, this module also discusses maintaining cleanliness in food areas, cooking temperatures, and safe food waste disposal practices.
  • Module 6 – Considering Nutritional Needs Across Age Groups: This module examines the nutritional needs of young people and adults, including planning balanced meals and snacks, understanding energy requirements, and identifying sources of key nutrients. It also addresses factors influencing eating patterns and the importance of meeting nutritional recommendations for different age groups.

On successful completion of your award, your assessor will coordinate with the awarding body for the issuance of your certificates, which will be promptly delivered to you.
