Our Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities (RQF) is an accredited qualification that aligns with the Learning Disabilities Core Skills Education and Training Framework. Developed in response to the revised framework commissioned by Health Education England and NHS England, our qualification includes tier 1 and various tier 2 outcomes of the Oliver McGowan framework. Additionally, it has been enhanced with extra content to address evolving needs, with a focus on improving health outcomes and preventing early mortality.

Throughout the course, you will gain an understanding of the national and local safeguarding context, including the policies and agencies involved, and learn to recognise signs of abuse and respond effectively to suspicions or allegations. Mandatory Units

  • Module 1 – Safeguarding in Learning Disability Care: This module delves into understanding the national and local context of safeguarding, including policies and agencies involved. It covers identifying signs of abuse, responding to suspicions or allegations, and ways to reduce vulnerability and report unsafe practices effectively.
  • Module 2 – Personalisation in Social Care: This module explores its definition, benefits, and legislative impact. It discusses how personalisation influences support provision, empowers individuals, and addresses potential barriers to implementation while outlining necessary skills and support.
  • Module – Risk Taking for Individuals with Disabilities: This module covers the rights of individuals with disabilities to take risks and the benefits of doing so. It guides through positive risk assessment, legislation promoting human rights, and methods to support informed decision-making. It also covers managing identified risks and ensuring consistent support.
  • Module 4 – Supporting Learning Disabilities in Healthcare Access: This module captures relevant legislation, policies, and consent. It also addresses making healthcare services accessible, the role of different healthcare professionals, and the significance of regular health checks. Overcoming barriers and providing necessary resources and support are also discussed.
  • Module 5 – Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities: This module highlights human rights, inclusion, and changing attitudes. It covers understanding learning disabilities, promoting communication, and facilitating social inclusion. It emphasises empowerment and addressing societal perceptions.
  • Module 6 – Understanding Autistic Spectrum Conditions: This module emphasises individual uniqueness and support strategies. It addresses behaviour management, effective communication, and the importance of consistent support networks. Strategies for reducing communication barriers and understanding sensory difficulties are also covered.

Your tutor will work with you to set targets and milestones that are achievable for you and will check in with you regularly, providing assistance whenever necessary.

On successful completion of your award, your assessor will coordinate with the awarding body for the issuance of your certificates, which will be promptly delivered to you.
