Assisting and Moving People Training

Our Assisting and Moving People Training course offers face-to-face practical and theory based training for all care workers involved in assisting and moving people. Also often referred to as Moving and Positioning Training, this course will help staff prevent and minimise risk of injury, and protect the dignity of the individuals being assisted.

Course Description

Will be dependent on the workers role and responsibilities and appropriate training should be provided to enable the worker to:

  • be able to move and position an individual safely.
  • use equipment which may be required.
  • understand current legislation, national guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols in relation to moving and positioning individuals.
  • understand anatomy and physiology in relation to moving and positioning individuals.
  • be able to minimise risk before moving and positioning individuals.
  • know when to seek advice and/or assistance from others when moving and positioning an individual.

Complete Training Minimum Learning Outcomes:

Enable the worker to:

  • Achieve all recommended minimum learning outcomes (listed above)
  • Encourage people to participate actively as much as possible in any moving and positioning activity
  • Promote independence and effective communication and obtaining valid consents prior to moving and positioning an individual.
  • Recognise and adapt actions for the moving and handling of people and objects
  • Be confident with a range of equipment and aids that are available
  • Consider different conditions when moving and positioning people in a person-centred way
  • Complete activities safely, and be aware of safe techniques
  • Be aware of the falls cycle

N.B. If undertaking the Practical element of this course, delegates are observed completing a practical assessment in a classroom environment following on from demonstrations.

  • CQC KLOEs / Safe: S2, S3 / Effective: E1, E2
  • CQC fundamental standards / Safety

Suggested refresher frequency:

Learning should be refreshed and knowledge and competence assessed at least annually and when a new risk is introduced.

Delivery

This course will be delivered by an expert trainer in this field at dates and times of your choosing. The training is hosted at our own premises which can comfortably accommodate up to 8 individuals in both our practical and training room.  All course materials will be provided and refreshments are included. This training can also be delivered at your own premises if the required equipment is available, safe to use, with all certificates in place and with adequate space available for all attendees.

If face to face training is not feasible, we also offer a remote distance learning pack to cover the knowledge elements only, and this can be supported by a competency assessment being undertaken in the workplace during every day working practices.

Certificates will be issued on completion, and you will also receive copies of completed evaluation forms for your records.  We are flexible on start times to help accommodate for all your shift patterns, including evenings and weekends.

**Please note:

A strict dress code is required to be followed to attend and participate in the Practical element of this course.  These include no short skirts, no low cut tops, and full shoes must be worn.  Anyone attending in inappropriate footwear will not be permitted to participate in the practical aspect.  Thank you.

Feedback from attendees has highlighted that they have preferred the course to be delivered over the course of one day, integrating both theory and practical training throughout the day (as opposed the two separate half days on different dates).

The theory and practical training can both be delivered as standalone courses.

  • Assisting and Moving People – Facilitators Training – Our Assisting and Moving People training for facilitators is a two-day course which offers face-to-face practical and theory-based training for all staff involved in a facilitator role. Our Moving and Positioning People Training course is designed to meet the care needs of your end-users, and help you fully meet the related regulatory CQC compliance standards against which your service may be assessed. Our courses strictly follow the Skills for Care recommended guidelines and are mapped to the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE’s) and CQC Fundamental Standards.

The content of this training can be adapted to include your organisations core values, mission, and policies and procedures, and we can also include examples of documents that you use to make the training completely relevant to your organisation and the expectations that you have in place.
