Our Medication Management Training course offers face-to-face training for all care workers on the topic of medication management. Our course will help care workers understand legislation, policy and procedures relevant to administration of medication, and provide training for administering and monitoring medication safely.
Skills for Care recommended Minimum learning Outcomes:
Will be dependent on the workers role and responsibilities and appropriate training should be provided to enable the worker to provide:
- Understand legislation, policy and procedures relevant to administration of medication.
- Know about common types of medication and their use.
- Understand procedures and techniques for the administration of medication.
- Prepare for the administration of medication.
- Administer and monitor medication safely.
Additional training as required such as:
- how to administer specific medicines such as patches, creams, inhalers, eye drops and liquids.
- Specialist training for specific medications e.g. Buccal midazolam.
Complete Training Minimum Learning Outcomes:
Enable the worker to:
- Achieve all recommended minimum learning outcomes (listed above)
- Work within their own area of competence
- Identify and describe a range of different routes of medication
- Complete and follow medication Profiles & Risk Assessments
- Identify the type, purpose and function of materials, aids and equipment
- Respond to a medication error and follow the policies and procedures that are in place

Suggested refresher frequency:
NICE recommend that learning for home care staff is refreshed and knowledge and competence assessed at least annually.
NICE recommend that learning for community-based staff is refreshed and knowledge and competence assessed at least annually.
Learning and development requirements will be dependent on the workers role and responsibilities.
Training and competency checks should be relevant to the type of service provision and agreed responsibilities.
The worker should not manage or administer medicines until they successfully completed any training needed and have been assessed as competent.
This course will be delivered by an expert trainer in this field at a date and time of your choosing. The training is hosted at our own premises which can comfortably accommodate up to 12 individuals. All course materials will be provided and refreshments are included. This training can also be delivered at your own premises if feasible and required.
Certificates will be issued on completion of the course and you will also receive copies of completed evaluation forms for your records. We are flexible on start times to help accommodate for all your shift patterns, including evenings and weekends.
If face to face training is not feasible, we also offer a remote distance learning pack containing learning resources and workbook.

- Certificate in Principles of Medication Administration Level 2 – This knowledge-only qualification is designed for staff, in a variety of roles, who want to develop their understanding of medication administration and how to handle this safely. Staff will develop knowledge of the procedures for obtaining, storing, administering and disposing of medicines, medicine related legislation, audit processes and issues of responsibility and accountability.
Our Medication Management Training course is designed to meet the care needs of your end-users, and help you fully meet the related regulatory CQC compliance standards against which your service may be assessed. Our courses strictly follow the Skills for Care recommended guidelines and are mapped to the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE’s) and CQC Fundamental Standards.
The content of this training can be adapted to include your organisations core values, mission, and policies and procedures, and we can also include examples of documents that you use to make the training completely relevant to your organisation and the expectations that you have in place.
