Turkel Mustafa (known to many as Turk) is a highly respected Senior Tutor with over 23 years of frontline experience across Mental Health secure inpatient services, education, children’s residential services, social care, and security settings. His extensive cross-sector background brings depth, credibility, and authenticity to every training session he delivers.
Turk has worked directly within complex and high-risk environments, developing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by staff supporting individuals with behaviours of concern. His hands-on experience enables him to provide practical, realistic guidance grounded in real-world scenarios.
For the past 18 years, Turk has worked as a PMVA Instructor and Tutor, delivering Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training across multiple sectors. He firmly believes that effective training must be delivered by instructors with genuine frontline experience, ensuring participants receive an honest and practical understanding of expectations within their working environments.
Throughout his career, Turk has led and supported teams in delivering a wide range of mandatory training subjects. He previously held the role of PMVA Regional Lead for the South West for one of the UK’s largest independent mental health providers. During this time, he supervised, mentored, and developed Assistant Instructors, maintaining high standards of delivery and compliance across the region.
Over 11 years ago, Turk established his own training company, Safe Hands Training, specialising in the prevention and management of violence and aggression, as well as behaviour management across all care sectors.
He is also Co-Founder and Director of PMVA Associates, a BILD-accredited organisation, where he serves as Lead in Skills, Senior Tutor, and Consultant. His role focuses on maintaining high-quality standards in physical intervention training and supporting organisations to meet regulatory and best practice requirements.
In addition to training delivery, Turk continues to work within clinical environments, classrooms, and children’s residential settings on a consultancy basis. He supports frontline staff in preventing and managing behaviours of concern, particularly in complex cases where teams may require additional guidance and specialist intervention strategies.
