This qualification indicates an individual can undertake the role of Emergency First Aider in the Workplace that may have been identified by a workplace risk assessment and can be relied upon by employers to satisfy the due diligence requirements of the HSE for EFAW training providers. The qualification will benefit all who need to be introduced to emergency first aid in the workplace and those who require requalification training in emergency first aid in the workplace.

Successful completion indicates knowledge and skills that have been identified by the HSE for the safe, effective and prompt treatment of injuries and illness in the workplace. The content of the qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first aid needs assessment.

Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of first aider The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves workplace first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point, learners will need to retake the course. Therefore, the qualification is valid for three years from the date of award. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
