Course Content

Mandatory Units

In these mandatory units, you will explore essential aspects of internet safety and cyber-bullying awareness. From understanding the principles of internet safety, including legal and ethical considerations, to recognising and responding to cyber-bullying, each module equips you with valuable knowledge and strategies to promote online safety and protect individuals.

  • Module 1: Principles of Internet Safety: Gain knowledge on internet features, access methods, and activities. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of internet use. Identify legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements for personal internet use. Learn about how adults, children, and young people utilize and access the internet, including communication methods and social networking. Explore the risks associated with internet use, such as sharing personal information, data security risks, cyber-bullying, and internet grooming. Understand how to safeguard individuals using the internet by identifying security tools and safe practices. Learn to recognize signs of internet abuse, report abuse, and support victims.
  • Module 2: Cyber-bullying Awareness: Understand the nature of cyber-bullying, including its definition and forms. Differentiate between bullying and cyber-bullying. Identify motives and social trends in cyber-bullying. Learn strategies to minimize cyber-bullying, including prevention practices in education establishments, workplaces, and among individuals. Explore the importance of internet safety awareness in reducing cyber-bullying. Recognize signs and symptoms of cyber-bullying, and learn how to respond, support victims, deal with offenders, and report incidents. Discover where to find information on cyber-bullying.
  • Module 3: Introduction to Social Networks: Get introduced to social network applications and the concept of social networks. Learn about online identities, online friends, and common social networking sites and apps. Understand how adults, children, and young people use social networks and the social impacts of these platforms. Explore legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements for social network use. Understand the benefits and risks of sharing information on social networks, types of shared personal information, and the purpose of ICT parental controls. Discover safe and responsible practices for privacy and safety on social networks, including reporting misconduct and abuse.

Your tutor will work with you to set targets and milestones that are achievable for you and will check in with you regularly, providing assistance whenever necessary.

On successful completion of your award, your assessor will coordinate with the awarding body for the issuance of your certificates, which will be promptly delivered to you.
